The Holy Quran

  • This page was going to be a private page, and not be published for fear of an overload of the Quran for my non-Muslim friends.
  • Unfortunately, I could not resist sharing such beautiful, melodious soothing recitations of the Quran - with English translation (some in many other languages).
  • Even though there are many many beautiful reciters, I am really enjoying listening to his style of recitation ~ Omar Hisham Al Arabi.

  • The Quran is the divine Book of Muslims revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) via Angel Gabriel in Arabic.
  • Muhammad (PBUH) received the Qur'an via Angel Gabriel, as a copy of the eternal Qur'an which is inscribed in heaven.
  • It was reveled in sections and verses over a period of 23 years.
  • It is the only Book of God which has never changed in over 1400 years and is considered by Muslims to to be the final Book of God.
  • The Quran consists of 30 Juz (Sections), 114 Surahs (Chapters) and 6236 Aayats (Verses)
  • The recitation of the Quran whilst sounds musical to the Non-Muslim ear, is actually meant to be recited with its Arabic text, and meant to be soothing and beautiful to listen and read.
  • The recitation is done with what is referred to as Tajweed, and there are several types of recitation, as you may see here. The Qurʾānic verses are recited in diverse ‘modes of recitation’ (Qira'at).

Some of those shared here include:
  • The very first verses of the Quran as reveled to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) via Archangel Gabriel - 'Iqra' which means 'Read'
  • The Opening Chapter of the Holy Quran - Surah Fatiha
  • Surah Ar-Rahman
  • Surah Yaseen
  • Surah Maryam - Chapter 19 of the Quran is named and dedicated to Mary the mother of Jesus (PBUH).

Beautiful Recitations of the Quran by Omar Hisham Al Arabi

This is the first verses of the Holy Quran revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) via Angel Gabriel, whilst the prophet was in meditation in cave of Hira. The angel Gabriel appeared before him in the year 610 AD and said, "Read", upon which he replied, "I am unable to read". Thereupon the angel caught hold of him and embraced him heavily and commanded Muhammad to recite the following verses.
Surah Fatiha (The Opening). This chapter is the opening chapter of the Quran. This is the Surah which Allah has obligated for us to recite in every single rakat of prayer
Surah Al Baqarah - verses related to Ramadan on Fasting, where Allah SWT explains to us why Muslims fast in Ramadan.
Surah Ar Rahman beautifully recited by Omar Hishan Al Arabi - is an Egyptian reciter of the Quran, with a beautiful soothing voice.
Surah Yasin in considered the "heart of the Quran"

Surah Maryam (Mary) dedicated to the mother of Jesus (PBUH). It is the only chapter named after a female in the Quran and describes the  miraculous birth of Jesus (PBUH), presented to Mary by Angel Gabriel. The text of the surah also refers to many known prophetic figures, including Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Ishmael, Idris,
Adam, and Noah.
